Britain's Got Talent
I recently watched a rerun of the Oprah Winfrey show on which the originators of the website "You Tube" were guests. A number of YouTube's most popular videos were featured and some of the subjects of the videos made guest appearances on the Oprah show.
To me the most memorable story was that of a gentleman from Wales, by the name of Paul Potts. His video has been watched more than twenty five million times. Mr. Potts was the winner of the 2007 "Britain's Got Talent" (BGT) competition, the UK's answer to American Idol. Though he had previously sung in amateur opera productions he was, at the time of the BGT show, working at a cell phone store.
Born into a working class family, bullied at school because he was different and suffering from low self-esteem he found comfort and courage in his singing. Since his win on BGT he has gone on to record a debut album, which has sold two million copies.
When I first watched the You Tube condensed version of his performance of Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", at his BGT audition, I got goose bumps and was crying by the end of it.
Here was an unassuming man who, like many of us, had had issues with self-esteem and yet he not only faced his fears, he performed a difficult piece with finesse and passion, in a voice that stirs the very soul.
If you're feeling down, inadequate or depressed, or you merely want an uplifting experience I would highly recommend you click on this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k08yxu57NA to watch a condensed version of this man's extraordinary audition performance.
Guaranteed to make you feel better!
